Ashanti Perú
|
We are a non-profit civil association formed by young Afro-descendant professionals and activists on the Peruvian coast. Since its founding in 2004, Ashanti Peru serves as a space for meeting, resistance and training of young leaders of Afro-Peruvian communities in the country, with the purpose of combating racism, discrimination and Afro-descendant poverty, through active and effective participation in the full exercise of citizenship and human rights.
It implements programs and projects that strengthen the identity, leadership, human rights and political participation of Afro-descendant youth, mostly rural and urban-marginal communities, in addition to promoting public policies of social inclusion that empower Afro-Peruvian youth to a true community development and their positioning in positions and decision-making spaces at local, regional and national levels. It has a network of 500 volunteers and regional coordinators in the departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, Lima, Callao, Ica, Arequipa and Tacna, locations with a high Afro-descendant population in Peru. We recognize ourselves in the objectives of the Agenda 2030 on sustainable development - of the United Nations, for this we work with people from Afro-Peruvian communities in the development of capacities and skills from a gender, inclusive and intercultural perspective, favoring and promoting sustainable development through tools that seek personal, social and cultural development in an environment free of violence and discrimination. We also strengthen emotional health, resilience and Afro-Peruvian historical and cultural identity. |
