Associazione Ottovolante (Italy)

Ottovolante Association have experience and expertise in working in cultural, social and artistic projects, exchange in youth field and generally promote peace and solidarity throw- out all their projects. Some of Ottovolante main fields of action are artistic activities and intercultural education activities applied in the social and professional development. Most of the activities are implemented based on non-formal education methodologies and benefits young people, artists, youth workers, youth leaders, students, teachers, trainers and adult learners from diverse social and cultural background.

Our main motivation is to create artistic interchange between the various expressions of art and between our culture and others, European and non-European. In order to create these synergies, we thought from the outset of the form of the artist residency, as a place/space/time for cohabitation, co-management and realisation of works and events. Moving on the various fronts of our artistic and cultural interests, we created a network of residencies that includes Bologna, Sardinia and South America.

The independence and realisation of our idea is achieved thanks to our project activism and the network of institutional and non-institutional partners that we have created over time: our response to many calls for proposals allows many artists to participate for free or with a small contribution in collective residencies at various times of the year.

The modus operandi follows the project lines designed for individual projects:
- interchange with European and non-European countries in which we work on logistics on all fronts both in Bologna and in the exchange countries;
- reception in Bologna for professionalising projects or for artistic knowledge of the Emilia-Romagna region and realisation of collective and multidisciplinary residencies;
- realisation of textile art, photography and music residencies in Sardinia;
- reception and realisation of residencies in Montevideo for Italian and European artists on exchange or for artists who specifically request them for free or thematically proposed residencies.

In all 3 realities, we are characterised by our commitment to publicising the cultural reality and local artists, organising day-to-day life in terms of logistics and creating reference points for artistic work. The residencies always include final events resulting from collective or individual work accompanied by events allowing social integration and interaction between the artists. The spaces are modified according to the opportunities offered to the associations and individual artists, in a constant openness to change.
